The 519 announced today that its 2016 Green Space Festival, hosted June 30 to July 3 during the final weekend of Pride month, was attended by over 40,000 community members and netted over $500,000, a record-setting amount. The four-day music and cultural Festival is The 519’s largest community fundraising event of the year.
“We are absolutely thrilled and enormously grateful that our communities came out to support us,” says Jacob Porpossian, Chair of The 519’s Board of Management and Chair of the Green Space Festival. “This year’s Festival was marked by amazing performances, a beautiful atmosphere and a record-setting return for The 519 and its community programs and services!”
Funds raised through the Green Space Festival are invested directly into The 519’s vital year-round programs and services, including dedicated programs in support of LGBTQ refugees and newcomers, trans community members, LGBTQ seniors, queer and trans families as well as advocacy and outreach work done by The 519’s education and training work to promote inclusive and accessible spaces.
“The remarkable success of this year’s Festival provides The 519 with even more resources to fund the work we do and to be able to continue to provide free accessible community space,” says Maura Lawless, Executive Director of The 519.
This year’s Festival was made possible by the efforts of over 300 volunteers and the support of 250 “Club 519” donors and our amazing 2016 sponsors including:
