Green Space Festival 2022: Neighbourhood Information

Our Neighbourhood, Our Communities, Our Festival!

After the past two years, The 519 is thrilled to be hosting our annual Green Space Festival (GSF). GSF features a series of signature events held at Barbara Hall Park. This year, the Festival will take place from Thursday, June 23 to Sunday, June 26, 2022.

The 519 is Canada’s largest and most prominent 2SLGBTQ+ community centre, serving communities in Toronto and beyond. Green Space Festival matters to The 519 and our communities because:

  • It is our biggest fundraising event of the year.
  • 100% of all proceeds generated from GSF go to support The 519’s year-round programs and services for 2SLGBTQ+ communities.
  • GSF has been able to directly invest $3.8 million into programs and services for our underserved 2SLGBTQ+ communities as a direct result of our fundraising over the last 10 years.

The Festival and other activities held during Pride month have many positive impacts on our local neighbourhood and businesses. We are thankful for the wonderful support, feedback, and advice from our neighbours, community members, elected officials, and city staff that help make our festival better every year.

With the help of feedback and support, we have made many improvements over the years related to sound mitigation, traffic flow, pedestrian safety, park maintenance, and communications with our neighbours. We are fully committed to once again utilizing and enhancing those initiatives.

Please see the following information about our commitment to access to Barbara Hall Park and other facilities during the Festival.

Sound Mitigation

  • We are once again incorporating soundproofing features in our site plan to direct sound away from our neighbours as much as possible. For the first time, we will be double-wrapping instead of single-wrapping the fencing in sound-dampening banners.
  • We will not exceed 80 decibels during events, and will be monitoring this diligently throughout the Festival. This is 5 decibels less than previous years.
  • Amplified sound will end promptly at 11:59pm on June 23, 24, 25, and 26.
