This all-ages, all-nations gathering will include a Sacred Fire and opportunities for learning, reflection, and conversation with Indigenous Traditional Teachers and Knowledge Keepers. Families are warmly encouraged to attend.

Event Details

Date: Tuesday, September 29
Time: 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Location: Main conversations and food service will take place in the Ballroom. The Sacred Fire will be located in Barbara Hall Park, and children’s art activities will be held in the Glass Lobby Room.

Itinerary

Doors open at 3:00 p.m.

A Sacred Fire will be maintained throughout the event.

Opening Ceremony and Welcome Remarks | 4:00 p.m.
Traditional Teacher Dr. Rachel Schilling and Sally Giakezheyongai will open the gathering, joined by the Cedar Circle Singers.

Author Discussion | 4:30 p.m.
Author and Residential School Survivor Karen Chaboyer will be joined by her son, Charles Chaboyer, for a discussion and conversation. Copies of Karen’s book will be available. Learn more about They Called Me 33 by Karen Chaboyer here.

A children’s Orange Shirt Day art activity will be available throughout the event in the Glass Lobby Room.

Guests are also invited to visit a teaching art gallery featuring works by artist Jared Tait, available throughout the afternoon and evening.

Traditional Indigenous Food Service | 5:15 p.m. (TBC)

Free Orange Shirt Day shirts, designed by artist Amber Sweeney, will be available while supplies last.

To close the evening, we will gather in a Community Social Circle at the Sacred Fire, hosted by the Firekeepers and joined by visiting Elder Dorothy Peters.

The Every Child Matters TTC Shuttle Bus will be at The 519 during the event.
