Queering Justice: International Women’s Day Fireside Chat

Join us on March 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. for Queering Justice, our International Women’s Day Fireside Chat about navigating institutional gender-based violence affecting 2SLGBTQIA+ women and girls. Come to learn from our panelists and inspire conversation and collective action together. Our moderator, The 519’s Access to Justice Lawyer Zara Mercer, will engage a panel featuring:

  • Samantha Peters, human rights lawyer, workplace investigator, and creative strategist. She is the Founder and Principal Lawyer of Black Femme Legal who do pro bono legal education, advocacy, and strategic public interest litigation in support of Black queer and trans women, femmes, and gender-expansive people.
  • Olivia Coombe, a lawyer working in family, civil, administrative, and business law. She is the founder of Coombe Legal and an associate lawyer at Sher Legal, with a practice grounded in accessibility, equity, and client-centred advocacy.
  • Sheru Abdulhusein, founder of Sher Legal, a small law practice serving people across Ontario in the areas of child protection law, family law, tenant-side housing law, and civil litigation. Sheru has extensive experience in advocating for survivors of gender-based violence and assisting queer and trans community members.
