This October 19, Toronto’s Delusional Diva will trade the stage for the streets as Messy Margaret runs in the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon in full drag, raising funds in support of The 519 through the TCS Charity Challenge.
Messy Margaret, the campy performance queen and comedian behind Messy Productions Canada, is no stranger to bold entrances. Known for making a scene in her nouveau riche
glamour, bawdy humour, and Tik Tok sketches that have reached tens of millions world-wide, she’s now bringing her trademark energy to a new kind of spotlight; the race track.
“Drag is about visibility, resilience and joy,” says Messy. “Running in drag is my way of showing that our community is strong, unshakeable, worth celebrating, and worthy of being seen.”
The choice to support The 519 couldn’t be more fitting. As Canada’s largest 2SLGBTQ+ community organization, The 519 is committed to building healthier, happier futures for queer and trans communities.
Messy Margaret’s choice to support The 519 could not have been more clear and aligned, she says. “At a time when queer and trans rights face increasing attacks, The 519 is a lifeline connecting us back to the community, and to the resources and people that are there for us at every step. This is more than a personal challenge for me, it’s a rallying call for our community and our allies.”
No stranger to community building, Messy has built a community through her Drag Bingo and Brunch empire, becoming one of Toronto’s premiere drag production companies and performing across the province. She has quickly gained recognition for her creative and entertaining productions, always emphasizing the need to create opportunities for queer art in new spaces, and highlighting diverse talent from all backgrounds.
“The 519 creates spaces where everyone can feel seen, supported, and able to thrive. That’s exactly the kind of world I want to run toward,” she says.
You can support Messy Margaret’s race journey by donating through her TCS Charity Challenge fundraising page. Every dollar raised will help The 519 continue their vital work; feeding neighbours, supporting refugees, affirming trans identities, and creating safe spaces for generations to come.
Let’s help Messy Margaret cross the finish line for The 519!
