Among Friends

Among Friends is a welcoming weekly program designed specifically for LGBTQ+ refugee claimants. It is a safe space to connect with others, build friendships, and grow your community network while receiving vital information to help you settle into life in Canada.

With engaging presentations and info sessions on topics like immigration law, employment, and healthcare access, Among Friends is here to support LGBTQ+ newcomers every step of the way.

Since 2005, Among Friends has been a lifeline for those fleeing persecution due to their sexual orientation or gender identity, growing year after year to become one of The 519’s most impactful programs. It is also our largest volunteer-driven initiative, reflecting Toronto’s vibrant and evolving LGBTQ+ community.
