About Salah J Bachir

Salah J. Bachir, CM, OOnt was a prominent Canadian entrepreneur, philanthropist, arts patron, author, and tireless advocate for 2SLGBTQ+ communities. As Honorary Patron of The 519, he played a transformative role in the organization’s growth and impact. In 2004, he spearheaded the successful capital campaign to expand and renovate The 519, a contribution recognized through the naming of the Salah J. Bachir Wing. He also led The 519 Annual Gala for nearly two decades, helping raise critical funds to support the organization’s year-round programs and services. Salah loves all things art, community, and yes…jewellery!

Salah played an integral role in establishing The 519’s philanthropic programs, introducing dozens of new supporters to its work, serving as an ambassador for decades, and chairing numerous fundraising initiatives.

Salah’s generosity of spirit extended beyond our walls, too. He spearheaded numerous fundraising initiatives supporting the arts, social justice, and health care, including the Art Gallery of Ontario, OCAD University, and St. Joseph’s Health Centre. He also generously shared his extensive art collection with museums and galleries in his area, and many of his art contributions are on display on the walls of The 519.

Salah’s generosity, vision, and unwavering dedication to equity and inclusion left an unmatched legacy in Toronto’s 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

A Tribute to Salah
