Older LGBT Programme – Resource Centre

Title: Older LGBT Resource Centre Assistant

Purpose
  To assist the staff with the operation of the resource centre.

Responsibilities
· Attend regularly and punctually.
· Greet, befriend and make participants welcome and comfortable
· Assist with set up and takedown of furniture, equipment and resources related to the program.
· Assist and participate in the social component of the programme.
· Facilitate communication among participants and between staff and participants.
· Alerts staff to any situations that may require their attention.
· Participate in training sessions from time to time
· Maintain confidentiality re information gained in the course of volunteering
· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
· Experience working with people
· Understanding of agency policies, including boundaries and confidentiality.
· Sensitivity to LGBT people, people with low incomes or who live in poverty, and people whose first language is not English. Training is available.
· Willingness to participate in programme activities.

Orientation/Training
  On-the-job training will be provided by the staff and other volunteers.

Hours
  Volunteers commit to a weekly or biweekly shift.

Commitment
  6months minimum

Supervisor
  The Older LGBT Programme Coordinator supervises volunteers.
  The Volunteer Coordinator is an indirect supervisor.
