Community Living Programmes – Friday Night Club

Title: Friday Night Club Volunteer

Purpose
To create a warm, safe and accepting atmosphere for programme participants.

Qualifications
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
· Ability to respect differences in mental and physical ability.
· Basic customer service skills.
· Ability to take direction and work unsupervised at times.
· Ability to remain calm under stress.
· Understanding of the principles of professional boundaries and confidentiality with respect to volunteering in a social agency.

Responsibilities

General
· Arrive at the programme at the scheduled time.
· Assist participants with mobility concerns as needed
· Assist with setup/takedown of the dance as direct by the staff on duty
· Volunteer at the canteen and/or sign-in station for a portion of your shift
· Alert staff to any safety concerns or hazards in the dance
· Provide leadership and mentoring to peer volunteers
· Help maintain an enjoyable and respectful atmosphere for all staff, participants and volunteers

Canteen
· Prepare items for sale in the canteen
· Prepare coffee and tea for the evening
· Sell items and provide the correct change to FNC members
· Conduct a product inventory at the end of shift with items left over from sales
· Provide each volunteer on shift that night with 4 tickets in order to receive a total of only four drinks while on shift

Floor Volunteers
· Set-up and take down of tables and chairs unless given permission not to by FNC staff only
· Purchase of milk and any other supplies required for the night (one volunteer is asked to do this and supply a receipt)
· Volunteers on the doors ensure that members enter and exit the auditorium safely and open and close the doors for people
· All floor volunteers observe the dance in order to alert the staff of any unsafe behaviours such as outbursts, excessive jumping, slapping, any conflicts
· One floor staff may be needed to assist members on the ramp at the park entrance if there is limited maintenance staff
· Floor staff must tie up garbage and prepare it for maintenance staff
· Report any spills or broken tables etc. so they can be attended to by staff ASAP

DJ Volunteers
· The DJ holds the key for the supplies room in 23
· Prepares the sound equipment for the evening
· Alerts staff and hands keys to staff during the dance if additional supplies are needed throughout the dance
· Provides music during dance, controlling the volume to a reasonable level
· Ensure that the sound equipment and all left-over canteen items are secured in the supplies cupboard at the end of the shift
· Returns keys to program staff at the end of shift

Sign-In Volunteer
· Assist staff with signing in of members and/or giving out tags
· Relieve staff at the table
· Alert staff when non-members attempt to enter the dance
· Alert members of Wheel Trans calls from front reception, by requesting DJ to announce the party’s name

Orientation/Training
Has completed a 519 volunteer application form.
Has completed an interview with the Volunteer Coordinator.
On-site orientation by the staff supervisor and training as required.

Hours
Volunteers commit to a weekly or biweekly 5-hour shift.

Commitment
6 months minimum.

Supervisor
The Community Living Programme Coordinator supervises volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator is an indirect supervisor.
