Committee Volunteers

Title: AIDS Vigil Committee

Purpose
  To organize and promote the annual AIDS Candlelight Vigil.

Qualifications
· Experience working or volunteering within the HIV/AIDS community.
· Familiarity with The 519 and its mission and values
· Knowledge of community outreach and promotion
· Experience with special events coordination
· Knowledge of issues faced by traditionally marginalized populations struggling again HIV/AIDS
· Sensitivity to issues faced by LGBT people, people with low incomes or who live in poverty, and people whose first language is not English

Responsibilities
· Attend meetings of the committee on a monthly or bimonthly basis.
· Contribute to the overall organizing of the Vigil by committing to tasks as delegated by the group
· Contribute to the election of committee co-chairs
· Contribute to Vigil rehearsal and audition sessions as needed
· Coordinate group activities with The 519 staff liaison to the Vigil.
· Ensure that all members are aware of The 519’s structure of accountability and that any concerns may be brought to the attention of 519 staff.

Orientation/Training
  Committee members will be oriented to the group by the co-chairs and other committee members.

  Training will be made available according to the needs of the group and available funding through The 519 Volunteer Programme.

Hours
  Volunteers commit to a monthly 2-3-hour shift (plus any additional hours required for Vigil organizing) from September to June.

Commitment
 
A minimum of 2 years.

Supervisor
  The AIDS Candlelight Vigil Committee is run as a co-chaired volunteer collective with support from The 519 staff liaison (Office Manager).
