Anti-Violence Programme

Title: Workshop Speaker

Purpose
  Co-presenter or sole presenter on topics such as homophobia, hate crimes, same-sex domestic violence, working with LGBT clients.

  Presentations are usually done for college/university classrooms. However, presentations have been done in businesses, conferences.

Qualifications
· Comfortable speaking to an audience
· Ability to speak to an audience who might include homophobes and/or others who are not familiar with queer issues.
· Good public speaker
· Patience
· Quick thinking (for Q&A portion)

Responsibilities
· Present workshop on topic
· Answer questions
· Respectful/courteous
· Volunteer would always have the option to leave if the audience members became abusive.

Orientation/Training
  AVP Coordinator would be responsible for the training and orientation.

Hours
  Usually during the daytime. Although there are some evening appointments.
  Workshops usually take anywhere from 60-90 minutes (sometimes longer if the audience has many questions).

Commitment
  A minimum of 9 months to 1year.

Supervisor
  Anti-Violence Programme Coordinator. Volunteer Coordinator is an indirect supervisor.

Expenses
 
The 519 will reimburse volunteers for TTC fare and provide light refreshments at training sessions.
