Anti-Violence Programme

Title: Community Outreach (Bar Nights)

Purpose
  To broaden community awareness about bashing and domestic violence and to promote AVP.

Qualifications
· Attend training session
· Ability to approach and speak to strangers in queer bars in Toronto
· Some knowledge of AVP, bashing and domestic violence (provided at Training Sessions)
· availability on Friday nights (might attempt to try another night)
· No formal education etc. required.

Responsibilities
· Hand out information cards on bashing or domestic violence
· Answer questions, inquiries
· Be courteous, respectful
· Assist new volunteers

Orientation/Training
  AVP Coordinator would be responsible for the training and orientation.
  Volunteers assist/guide new volunteers on their first night.

Hours
  Currently one Friday night a month from 9:00 p.m. until 10:30 or 11:00 p.m.
  This may change to two times per month, and/or a different night.

Commitment
  A minimum of 9 months to 1 year.

Supervisor
  Anti-Violence Programme Coordinator. Volunteer Coordinator is an indirect supervisor.

Expenses
  The 519 will reimburse volunteers for TTC fare and provide light refreshments for training sessions.
