Anti-Violence Programme

Title: Accompaniments

Purpose
  Provide company/support for clients who are attending court, or a medical appointment, or a police station, or an emergency room visit.

Qualifications
· Patience
· Empathy
· Good/active listening skills
· Counselling experience/background preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities
  Volunteer would not act as a counsellor, doctor, lawyer or chauffeur.

Orientation/Training
  AVP Coordinator would be responsible for the training and orientation.

Hours
  Unless it is a court date, or another pre-arranged appointment, accompaniments are usually required by walk-in clients, and therefore impossible to predict.

  Hours are also hard to predict. For example, a court accompaniment can go anywhere from 45 minutes to a full day.

  Police and medical accompaniments are usually 3-5 hours.

Commitment
  A minimum of 9 months to 1 year.

Supervisor
 
Anti-Violence Programme Coordinator. Volunteer Coordinator is an indirect supervisor.

Expenses
 
The 519 will reimburse volunteers for TTC fare.
