"If I didn't define myself for myself, I would
be crunched into other people's fantasies for me and eaten alive."
-Audre Lorde
Since January of 2001, Trans Youth Toronto has been a
drop-in for trans youth and youth exploring their gender identity. Drop-ins
are usually unstructured and people arrive when they can and leave when
they need to.
TYT Drop-ins are part of The Trans Programmes at The 519
Church Street Community Centre. Staff at The 519 are super friendly,
non-judgmental and trans-positive.
The space is a place to get together, have some snacks,
learn about resources, and share ideas and experiences with other trans
and questioning youth. Sometimes we talk about trans stuff, and sometimes
we just talk about whatever’s interesting.
Starting in 2007 we now have two facilitators, one trans
guy and one trans girl, to make the space even more welcoming and helpful.
TYT is run by trans youth for trans youth. This is SO
the place where you can be yourself, with others like yourself in a
safe, secure, and warm lounge-like environment.
We sometimes show movies or have guest speakers. For a
schedule of upcoming events, see our upcoming events calendar.
The group is open to anyone age 26 and under who is trans
or is exploring or questioning their gender identity.
Come and spend Wednesdays with us! And remember ... you
aren't alone and trans-youth rock-supreme!
