For many trans people, their lived experiences lead them to connect with "social services" frequently, yet social service providers rarely receive any specific sensitivity training on trans issues. Therefore, social service providers are often ill-equipped to support the trans clients seeking access to their service. Many service agencies - especially detox centres, shelters and hostels - are segregated by gender, which creates a significant series of barriers to service for trans people. This workshop is intended to address access to service barriers for trans people (especially lower income trans people) by educating service providers about the lived experience of this diverse and complex population.

Specific Objectives of this workshop are to:

• Increase agency staff knowledge about common TS/TG issues
• Identify current barriers to access
• Build tools for service providers to move towards further inclusion
• Reduce stigma
• Eliminate stereotypes
• Address issues of marginalized trans communities including sex workers, lower-income trans people, homeless and street-involved trans people.

This 3 hour workshop takes place four times a year!
