Our Services Workshops are available to agencies outside the Toronto area on a fee-for-service basis. Please contact us to discuss this possibility. All of our services are free of charge in the Toronto area and booking times are flexible. Workshops for Staff Part I of our staff workshop covers basic definitions, trans history, transition, myths and attitudes. Part II focuses on the specific targeting of the trans community through various forms of abuse and touches on the many common barriers for survivors of gendered violence. The workshop typically runs 4 hours and is designed to be interactive, giving staff the opportunity to ask questions and learn the information most relevant to them. A workshop for staff is a good chance for them to brainstorm difficult scenarios, learn about policies and procedures that are working in other agencies, and become more confident in their work with members of the trans community. Workshops for the Residents of Women’s Shelters This workshop compliments our staff workshop and is designed to be both an education about trans people’s experiences and an opportunity to communicate about the realities of life in a shelter. A workshop for residents is a good chance for them to meet trans people, ask questions, break stereotypes, and recognize that trans women are simply part of the diversity of women with both shared and unique struggles. Many shelters have reported improvements in the shelter atmosphere following this workshop. Policy assistance Our project policy consultant is available for consultations
with management to identify existing barriers to accessible services,
as well as to collaborate on determining possibilities for effective policies
and procedures. Please contact Alec Butler at 416 3926878 ext. 4006.
