FTM Safer Shelter Research Project

What is this project about?

This is a collaborative, community-based research project that is led by and for our trans communities, which aims to radically improve access to shelters and housing for trans men (female-to-male) in and around Toronto.

The project is conducted through research, training and activism.

Research Goals and Objectives

  • To identify the experiences, needs and concerns of FTMs in Toronto who are under-housed, homeless or have experienced homelessness;
  • To document the feedback, input and concerns of relevant community stakeholders within the shelter and hostel system regarding servicing FTMs;
  • To develop a collaborative research project between FTMs, researchers and relevant service sectors to facilitate dialogue and strategize regarding safe shelter and adequate access to housing for FTM’s;
  • To build community-based research capacity within FTM communities.
