Neighbourhood Information – Green Space Festival 2019

Our Festival, Our Neighbourhood, Our Communities

Each year, during the final weekend of Pride, The 519 hosts the Green Space Festival (GSF). It features a series of signature events, held at the Barbara Hall Park. This year, the Festival will take place from June 20 to June 23, 2019.

The 519 is a prominent charity and community centre serving LGBTQ2S communities in Toronto and beyond. Green Space Festival matters to The 519 and our communities because:

  • It is our biggest fundraising event of the year.
  • 100% of all proceeds generated from GSF go to support The 519’s year-round programs and services for LGBTQ2S communities.
  • GSF has been able to directly invest $3 million into programs and services for our underserved LGBTQ2S communities as a direct result of our fundraising over the last 10 years.

The Festival and other activities held during Pride month have many positive impacts for our local neighbourhood and businesses. We are thankful for the wonderful support, feedback and advice from our neighbours, community members, Councillor Wong-Tam, the Church Wellesley Neighbourhood Association, and the Church-Wellesley Village BIA during this time.

With the help of feedback and support, we have made many improvements over the years related to sound mitigation, traffic flow and pedestrian safety, park maintenance, and communications with our neighbours. We are fully committed to once again utilizing and enhancing those initiatives.

Please see the following information about our commitment to access to the Park and other facilities during the Festival.

Sound Mitigation

  • We are once again incorporating soundproofing features in our site plan to direct sound away from our neighbours as much as possible.
  • We will not exceed 85 decibels during events, and will be monitoring this diligently throughout the Festival.
  • Amplified sound will end promptly at 11:59pm on June 20, 21, 22 and 23.

Access to Splash Pad (From June 20-23)

  • Splash Pad will be open during Green Space Festival events with mixed use. More details under section ‘Information about access to Barbara Hall Park venue and facilities during Pride week’.
  • Only families with children can access the Splash Pad when set-up is underway. More details under section ‘Information about access to Barbara Hall Park venue and facilities during Pride week’.
  • Caution is strongly advised when set-up or events are underway.
  • For your safety, we will be tying down the playground equipment at 7pm during Green Space Festival events.
  • Day-wise access details further below.
